nightmare on diamond street

from about 1am until god knows when, this was happening below my bedroom window:

i couldn't quite figure out what the emergency was, but it involved two fire trucks, an ambulance, and a few police cars.

once i realized that the neighborhood was not on fire, i was able to block out the endless flashing lights just long enough to fall asleep.

also, today is my mother's birthday!
also, i only have 9 more days in my twenties!
also, you all should come to my birthday party.

we are experiencing technical difficulties...

i'll be back in full swing before too long. summertime is distracting is all.

here's something i just ran across though:

that's my good friend steve hugging a giant pink elephant.

it's great on about a thousand different levels.

clean out your man-purses

as we all now know, i never take my bag off ever.

that's why this news is completely creepy to me.

of course i realize the need for safety, but doesn't this seem a bit out of hand?

hmm...
just so you know...

...i've been listening to Faith No More all day long today.

bringing you all up to speed (now with GAWKER-making-fun-of-me update!)

i have been busy. forgive me.

actually, i still am busy, so this is going to be a quick one., divided into two parts:

topic one:
the siren festival
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
libby, her boyfriend and i went out to coney island under the guise of watching all of the bands play on saturday.

the very first thing that we did when we got there was to ride the Cyclone. i love that thing so much and it was the perfect way to start off the day.

after that we walked to the boardwalk and watched a guy throw french fries up into the air for the seagulls to catch. i guess that made us hungry, because then we decided to walk to Tottono's pizzeria for the best pizza ever. the line to get in was ridiculous, but we waited anyways.

then we decided to ride the Wonder Wheel. (that's where the picture above was taken from)

and THEN libby wanted to ride the Zipper, but i hate those kinds of rides so luckily her man had to step up.

at this point, after having been there for 5 hours, i had seen approximately 7 minutes of music. we made our way over to one of the stages because i wanted to see what saul williams was like. he turned out to be really badass. it was easily the best of what i saw that day.

then came about an hour or so in the batting cages (with varying degrees of success)...

then, while watching the ultra-shitty-band-with-the-worst-haircuts-ever 'vhs or beta' play, i realized that i had had enough and made for the train back to greenpoint.

end of siren festival report.

topic two: chuck klosterman book party

last night there was a party for the release of his new book 'Killing Yourself To Live' at the Gibson (guitar) showroom.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

it was a really cool space and there was lots of free booze and cute girls that work at Spin Magazine. i was introduced to chuck as "this guy's from north dakota too!" and i don't know how he took that. ultimately though, he was a pretty nice fellow.

i think that my favorite part of the night though, was THIS!:

a goddamn rhinestone grand piano!

UPDATE!
shit! my Gawker debut. those sassy bitches! where's a man supposed to put his man-bag anyways? haha haaa....sigh.

crap.

thank you! GOODNIGHT!!

thor's day

good morning peoples.

so, as promised, without further ado, in a timely manner, i present to you, dear readers, my wednesday night:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
firstly, i met up with some work folks at this place called Hallo Berlin to say goodbye to one of them.

it's sort of a beer garden-y place way on the west side of manhattan.

this thing that i am drinking is called the "humpen" i do believe. it cost $12, but it was almost the size of a pitcher, so i forgive myself.

in minot, that would probably cost what, $4? damn, i love that town.

soon it was 8 o'clock and time to get down to pier 54 on the Hudson river to meet up with libby so we could watch a movie.

libby!

they have these free movies all over town during the summer and it's pretty damn great. in fact, nyc has so much free stuff going on this time of year, that i can't even keep up. check out this list of mostly free stuff (stolen from brooklyn vegan) of what is happening just tonight alone:

1) Dinosaur Jr, Broken Social Scene, Radio 4, & Magik Markers (inside - $$)
2) Dinosaur Jr, Broken Social Scene, Radio 4, & Magik Markers (outside - free)
3) Ozomatli in Prospect Park (free)
4) Son Volt / Dr. Dog @ South Street Seaport (free)
5) Calexico in Castle Clinton (free)
6) The Roots @ Hudson River Park (free)
7) Dungen @ Maxwell's ($$$)
8) Tegan & Sara @ Webster Hall ($$$)

but back to last night's film...

what was it that i saw?

here's a clue:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

can you tell what it is?

it's a classic from our youth...

well, at least my youth...

here's another shot:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

yep, that's right...strange things are afoot at the Circle K,

BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE.

i didn't realize that i pretty much have this whole film memorized for some reason, but it was still fun to see while sitting out in the warm night.

oh, and jane wiedlin (from the go-go's) makes a really cute Joan of Arc.

and there was even free popcorn.

all in all, it was a pretty good wednesday night.

time's a tickin'

hello lovers.

in case you didn't know, i have about 3 1/2 weeks left of my twenties. after that, i'll be a full fledged old guy.

get ready.

oh, and i am still trying to figure out where i should have my birthday party. if anyone has any suggestions, i am all ears.

in other news, i have been getting my ass royally beat down by THREE different opponents in internet scrabble.
it's pretty awful. i am now trying to redeem myself though.

did you know that 'pepo' is a word? yep.

oh, and i just saw that one of my all-time favorite sites is back in action. go here to read some funny things.

and THEN, tonight i am going to do two fun things maybe. if i do either of them, i just might tell you about them tomorrow.

now it's back to scrabble...i'm coming for you melander!

hot

it's 93 degrees up in this mutha today.

hot damn.

yesterday i played basketball with eric and the damn crazy.
we played '21'.

then we ate pad thai.

also, is it embarrassing to admit that i somehow hurt my arm while playing foosball?

i think it probably is.

i am not ashamed.

at any rate, i came across this site somewhere along the way and have been getting albums from it for a while now. they have different pretty badass older albums up for grabs as well as some kids records.

i highly recommend it.

the current "Sounds In The Night" is pretty nice.

bye.

it's a celebration, bitches...

this episode stars ms. jamila as she is the best fourth of july companion ever.

the day got an early start because i had this crazy dream about these super, super fast cockroaches that were taking over the world and the only way to defeat them was by lighting them on fire with a can of hairspray and a lighter. it was bananas and totally freaked me out.

i woke up at 6:27am.

then i did a super deep clean of my apartment, focusing on my bedroom. luckily, there were no sightings of these super-roaches (or any roaches for that matter).

now i live in a spotless palace.

ok, so the weather this weekend was so perfect. in the 80's and sunny and great.

the 4th was no exception.

jamila called me up and told me to meet her in park slope where she had big things planned for the day. i ended up getting out there around 2:30ish and we walked (forever) to meet her friend daniel so we could get some mexican food. more importantly, we could get a giant pitcher of margaritas.

after that, daniel made some spiked lemonade that we took to Prospect Park and drank while we played frisbee and some sort of paddle ball game. the park was full of people doing the same. the fourth of july makes everyone happy.

soon it was time to head to our next destination: Rooftop Films. jamila's got an in with one of the main fellows of this operation so she brought us along to the top of this parking garage in downtown brooklyn.

this is her buying a new metrocard.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
and this is her taking a rest while waiting for the train to come. (notice the lemonade in hand)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
and here is what she brought along to snack on while watching the movies/fireworks/band.

what did i bring to eat?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
subway!

i actually stopped into mcdonald's first, but then remembered that i made a promise to myself to never ever ever have another fish o'fillet from there ever again. i was happy about my sandwich choice in the end. mmmmmm....subs on the roof.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
oh yeah, the mountain goats played before the fireworks and films. i had only ever heard a handful of his songs, but it was good to see.

then all of the sudden it was dark outside.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

i wish i could provide you with some kick-ass awesome photos of the fireworks that Macy's provided, but this rooftop was pretty far away from them. so instead of posting the craptastic shots that i got, i'll just say that they seemed lovely.

after the fireworks, the films began. the first thing that they showed was this ridiculous video . it was funny to see it on the big screen.

then there were some more, but i can't really remember what they were because my mind was clouded by margaritas/lemonade/beer.

it was fun though. there were a ton of people there too.

but then jamila disappeared...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
...and it was time to go home.

luckily for me, i ran into these girls that i know from my neighborhood and they offered me a ride home. thank you nell and sarah! if i had taken the subway, it would have taken a thousand years to get back to greenpoint.

plus, riding in cars is FUN!

once i hit my bed, i was out almost instantly. when i woke up this morning, i was pleasantly surprised to find my room clean as a whistle (and no super-roaches either).

i hope everyone else had a lovely holiday!

i give all my money to hollywood

for some reason i have already seen 3 (THREE!) movies this week and it's only friday.

i don't know what's wrong with me, but here's what i thought about what i saw:

MONDAY:

ME YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW
this movie is great. go see it. there's the most amazing child actor in it ever who has one scene that had me laughing until tears were coming out of my eyes.

it's written by/directed by/stars the artist miranda july and she's pretty cute and awesome, but in that girl who's-cute-and-awesome-but-probably-a-little-crazy sort of way.

if you don't like this movie, YOU are crazy.

there, i said it.

WEDNESDAY:

WAR OF THE WORLDZ
i went with two other folks and they didn't like it that much. i, on the other hand, did like it. but then i wasn't expecting anything more than a cool-looking alien invasion movie.

i remember buying the original orson welles radio show from B. Dalton in high school. i loved listening to that thing.

this film is pretty much like that, but with a few twists and tweaks and some super badass alien death rays. oh, and tom cruise is in it too.

i wasn't even annoyed that much by him either. though there is this scene where he goes into and then comes out of this giant alien anus-like thing. i couldn't help but snicker at that.

final grade: a good solid B

THURSDAY:

BATMAN BEGINS (IMAX version)
alright, yes, i already saw this once. but not on the almighty IMAX. i think the last time i was in one of these theaters was in high school and they played something about beavers.

when this thing started last night, i was floored by the complete all around badassery that i was watching. obviously, the screen is just retardedly huge, that's a given. the thing that really surprised me though was the quality of the audio and the picture itself. both were just perfect and loud and cah-razy and almost too much to handle.

i was giggling to myself the whole show.

oh, and all that batman stuff is pretty fun too.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

ok, so that's that. now i must go and pay some rent, prepare to go to yoga, and then figure out what i am going to do with my weekend.

if anyone has any suggestions/ideas for me, i'm all ears.

happy fourth of july everybody!

(ps. you might be wondering what the first thing that i did when i got to work this morning was? well, i blasted neil diamond's 'america' super loud to all of my co-workers to get them into the spirit of the holiday.

it was the least that i could do...)
