off the road again...

ugh, i just typed up a big fargo recap, but then came the computer freeze up and well, that's that.

anyways, in lieu of posting a ton of pictures of my fargo trip here, i sent most of you a link to the album on ofoto/kodak. if you didn't get an invite from me, but still want to see the truly amazing spectacle that is minneapolis/fargo, just let me know your email and i'll send you one.

in the meantime, here is a video of me and my friend aaron just outside of our final destination.

(the video is only up for 7 days i guess, so act quick!)

can i go back on vacation again please?

location: minneapolis, minnesota

so, i woke up today at 6:30am after going to sleep at 1:30 last night. my friend aaron and i went to al's diner in dinkytown for my first taste of hashbrowns in a long time.

after that, he went to work and i took his car and went to the walker art center sculture garden. it was fun. i saw my first red breasted robin of the new year. that is a good sign. things are going to start changing. just wait, you'll see.

now i am going to venture back out into mpls, but it's funny because i don't have any plans at all and don't really know where to go. any ideas anybody? hmmm...

the air smells ridiculously nice here. there are birds chirping outside of my window as i sit here. that is a nice change from the near constant car alarms and car horns and screaming people that i have become used to.

minneapolis is a nice place. people live like actual humans here. they don't have 2 stranger roommates that they found on the internet or pay obscene amounts of money for most everything.

hmm...

anyways, tomorrow morning aaron and i drive to fargo, north dakota. so if anyone from there reads this, i hope to see you at ralph's at some point.

love,

anthony

shamrock!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

happy st. patrick's day everybody!

the parade is going on right now a block from me. it's good to hear the boogie beats of the marching bands.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

the rest of the parade basically consists of roving bands of drunken teens being completely and totally obnoxious. it's a good thing that i was never an obnoxious teen.

hopefully tonight i'll find some green beer to drink somewhere.

also, for those interested, the new fiona apple album has finally leaked. get it here. (via productshop nyc)

oh, even though i try not to make this a link-to-other-blogs-that-posted-things-about-other-blogs kind of place, stereogum has a pretty awesome animated gif of the highlight of last night's America's Next Top Model.

after a shaky start, this season is growing on me.

reality
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

one of my favorite things about riding the subways to and from places is how people deface the posters on the walls.

there's been many times where i have actually laughed out loud from them. some folks are just clever i guess.

i am going to finally quit being lazy and start my collecting of these. after a while, i'll put them up somewhere. it'll be an ongoing type of project....

and now for a COMPLETE shift in subject matter....

for some reason i was searching for that old site for my high school reunion from a couple of years back.

here it is.

while i was looking around, i came across a post about one of my classmates getting injured in iraq. my first thought was that it was a shrapnel wound or something that isn't too serious. then i learned that it was waaaay worse than that...he actually lost his right leg at the hip.

god damn.

it's just super sad.

here's a link to a page about him.

spring time in new york

hey everybody! happy monday! weeeeee...monday!!

hey guess what?? it's STILL cold here! that is just so awesome.
this prolonged lack of sun has left me so pasty white that soon you'll be able to check my blood pressure just by looking at me.

did that make any sense?

no, right?

well, whatever.

anyways, i was sick all last week with a cold. booooo! i feel good today though. so there.

i just read something at one of my favorite sites that made me laugh out loud. i figured i'd share it with you.

that's the kind of guy i am.

"Sheryl Crow is topless. What the hell...
Ummm … okay, I have no idea what to say about this one either. She doesn’t look too great, but it’s not like I spent a lot of time day-dreaming about Sheryl Crow topless, so I’m not really disappointed or anything. It’s like seeing a porcupine or something. You didn’t expect to see one, but hey, look, there’s one. And that's what it looks like."

it's from The Superficial, which usually does a pretty good job of entertaining me.

ok, so i'm easily entertained...

don't fear the reaper, fear the damn crazy

friday night was my friend megan's birthday party at this bar called 'trash'. i know megan from living in fargo.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
here's the birthday girl. how cute.

i get to see megan about twice a year. i don't know why it's not more often.

this year for her present, i decided to bring her a surprise:

the cornejo.

scratch that! this night had two surprises:

parents lock up your children...the damn crazy has arrived.

i met dan (whose real name is 'dan crary' but has justifiably earned the nickname 'damn crazy') during a really fun weekend like three years ago. he is completely nuts, but also completely awesome.

i had to be up at 7am the next morning to install my sculpture in the gallery, so i had planned on not drinking too much.

in the end though, the odds were too great against me and i stayed out way too late.

i still made it to the gallery on time though. how's that for dedication?

thursdays with schnabel

for all of the complaining that i do about living in this town, i still really love it.

last night was a great example of why i do.

i went to go see a lecture that the painter julian schnabel was giving at the new york studio school. it was the second one that i attended there, the first being a talk that the super badass james rosenquist (a grand forks, north dakota native!) gave last year.

they are incredibly intimate, interesting things, these talks.

i must say that i have never really been a huge fan of schnabel's work, but i find him to be an interesting guy. he paints, he sculpts, he directs films (basquiat, before night falls) all while looking eerily similar to the big lebowski. in person though, he was totally charming and gave a really personal (if somewhat rambling) two hours and then some talk.

i got a great seat two rows away from him.

even better and waaaaaay more exciting for me though was the fact that i was sitting about three feet from Lou Reed (!) the entire night.

here's Lou! sitting next to him are two of schnabel's sons. about halfway through the talk, his sexy and tremendously good smelling daughter lola sat right next to me.

it was totally great. i wish i could have taken more (and better) pictures, but i felt weird taking the ones that i did. plus i didn't want Lou to start yelling at me.

i came away from it all with a completely different view of schnabel than i did going in. he impressed me.

in honor of my Lou Reed experience, here's one of my favorite songs by him: New York Telephone Conversation.

world premiere event

i am trying to figure out how to post little videos up on this thang for you's.

herewith, please find my first attempt. let's call it a test:

click right here if you want to see what sledding looks like in brooklyn.

warning!
i have NO idea how long this will take to download...most likely quite a while (it's a 12 mb file).
if there are any brave souls who try it, please let me know how it works.

of course, if there are any web geniuses out there with a better way to do this, i am all ears.

thanks my guinea pigs!

***UPDATE***
so i just tried it here at work and it took about a minute and a half. anyone else?
i should also mention that the files will only be available on that site for 7 days. after that, you're out of luck suckas.
goddamn you i totally went snowboarding!!

i still have the sore arms to prove it!

the only reason why there isn't any photographic proof is that i would have smashed my camera into a million bits if i had taken it with me.

you've got to believe me!

in other news, i am in a group show at the George Adams Gallery that opens on friday. i hope to see you all there. you can witness my truly god-awful schmoozing skills. better yet, you can come out drinking with me afterwards!

for those of you that can't make it, i hope you spend that night being ashamed of yourselves.

but since i'm nice, here are some studio shots of what'll be there:

hoo haa.
