ok, ok...crap. it's already wednesday. and it's already june. my grip on the space/time continuum continues to loosen...
so yeah. last week mostly sucked. i thought i was going to die from wednesday morning until friday afternoon. then i recovered and it was memorial day weekend and it was beautiful outside.
here's a quick recap:
it all started last tuesday. it was adam's birthday and he was celebrating at the lovely and fun El Cantinero on University. before the party though, i went to see this pretty badass documentary about the Minutemen called
We Jam Econo.i really liked seeing all of that old footage of d. boon jumping around like a maniac. mike watt was his usual awesome rambling self and george hurley's cah-razy poof of hair was amazing. check it out if you get a chance. oh, i just remembered...at this screening they played it SUPER
SUPER loud though. i had to plug my ears for certain parts even. it was easily the loudest movie of all time.
then it was on to celebrate adam's 32nd year.
here's the birthday boy. awww.
it was fun. during the night, all that i ate was a bunch of chips and salsa.
and one bite of flan.
initially, i was convinced that i got food poisoning from this one bite of flan. i was sure of it. all i know is that i woke up the next morning severely sick. seeing this picture makes me want to gag, but i thought it was pretty great that someone captured me at the moment of the poisoning. (i have since found out that there seems to be a nasty virus going around making folks sick, so it's not from the flan after all. hooray!)
ok. here's something else from the night. at one point i handed my camera to my friend eric while i went to go put money in the jukebox. when i came back to the table i caught him taking this picture:
haha...making out at a mexican restaurant! jesus. i'm glad i got the camera back when i did.
well, the next morning my epic battle for survival began.
and there was blackness...
...three days later, i rose again to hang out with the libby in spacious prospect park in brooklyn.
it was just what i needed. plus, i hadn't been there in ages.
the next day i called eric to see what he was up to. we decided to go to the park to play frisbee.
that made two days in a row in prospect park. we ate subway sandwiches and watched a stunningly scoreless jamaican soccer match and layed in the sun.
the next day, my friend kelly had a bbq at her apartment in park slope. it was a lovely affair. from now on, kelly will be known as the woman who makes the most kick ass brownies in the entire universe.
after that, i met up with my cousin chris(topher) from minneapolis in the east village. it was his first time here and it was great to see him.
we went out to Arlene's Grocery to watch heavy metal karaoke. it was totally wicked. in case you don't know, this is karaoke with a live band that actually sounds pretty damn good. one of chris's friends wowed the crowd with an amazing version of Motley Crue's 'Livewire'. hands down though, the best performance of all time was put in by this little 5 foot tall old rocker dude with bleached blonde hair. right when he got on stage, i knew we were in for it. once he launched into Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark" i knew i was right. it was completely unbelievable. this guy could sing. and not just sing, but Dio-sing. the place went bananas when he was finished.
last night was chris's final night here so i went out and met up with him for dinner and then drinks at still one of my all time favorite new york bars, Holiday Cocktail Lounge. it was fun because it was super mellow in there and we could talk and catch up on things.
next up for me is a visit by (steady yourselves ladies) another minneaplolitan, jay peterson.
will anthony ever get back into the studio and get work done?
is going to the ymca to craft the perfect beach body a shattered dream?
is it all over for our hero?
only time will tell...
