damn victorious

the other night, while out waaaaay too late on a schoolnight, adam took a break from some serious foosball playing to challenge da(m)n to a good old fashioned arm wrastle.

he wanted to avenge his previous loss.

would this be adam's time to shine?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
preparing for the contest.

ready?
set?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
GO!!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
da(m)n started off strong...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
i thought it was going to be over in seconds.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
somehow, adam held off da(m)n's finishing move at the very last moment...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
it was heroic. da(m)n couldn't end it.

meanwhile.....

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
oh snap! adam comes back!

da(m)n acknowledges his rocky balboa-sized heart...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
but quickly returns the favor.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
about 40 seconds in, they are both still going strong.

but then...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
...in one of the sassiest moves ever, da(m)n goes for his drink in mid-match.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
would this be the moment of weakness that adam needs to gain some ground?

nope.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
like spinach to Popeye, the beer fueled one of the most vicious endings to a match ever.

so fast that i couldn't even capture it on film....

it was over in a golden flash.

ladies and gentlemen, your winner, da(m)n crazy.

summer is ON

the longest day of the year is upon us.

i haven't had a margarita in almost two weeks now. that is a dirty shame in my book.

hopefully it gets scorchingly hot here again so i can work on that.

in the meantime, i have added a flickr badge to the side over there (>). there's not much content up yet, but just you wait. it seems pretty easy and nice to have around. please visit and leave comments and the like.

do any of you's all have flickr accounts?

prove it.

in other happy news, i just read that katie holmes is not going to be in the next batman movie, but pretty much everyone else will. this is awesome. it's like a magical wish coming true.

oh, i forgot to tell you guys about seeing jonathan richman last friday. it was probably my tenth time seeing him and it was great. seeing his shows is like taking vitamins or laying in the sun. he's the best. go see him if you can.

and now for the post-lunch wrap up: i am full from a kick ass fruit salad.

damn crazy's theme song

my favorite part of this weekend was playing basketball with eric and damn crazy yesterday. we played '21' for a long, long time and it was fun fun fun.

today my legs are sore and i have a headache. i hardly ever get headaches.

on friday night, adam/eric/damn crazy and i decided to have an 'ultimate tournament of champions' (or something like that). it consisted of four events: foosball, pool, pinball, and arm wrestling. i believe that we started at 11pm and finished at 4am. it was awesome.

this (and many other previous late and bizarre nights caused by him) made me decide that THIS (it's only available for a week) is just about as perfect a theme song that you could ever ask for damn crazy.

as far as who won the tournament, i have no idea. but really, the fun is in the play, not the outcome, right?

just so you know...

i liked the new batman movie.

i might be getting soft in my old age, but...

this looks so totally great.

riding the mighty hudson (and living to tell about it)

it's currently 78 degrees in our office today. it doesn't sound so bad, but really it is. hot and digusting and annoying and it makes everyone cah-ranky.

so, who wants to hear about my amazing day of fitness?

(crickets chirping)

anyways, on sunday i got up EARLY (for a sunday) at 7:30 and headed to the sexy Greenpoint YMCA to go swimming for the first time in a forever. it was great. except for the fact that swimming is hard.

i couldn't do that many laps in a row, but it was a start.

after that, i went home and installed my highly ineffective air conditioner.
in case you didn't know, it's been in the 90's for over a week here. but the "real feel" (thanks Sam Champion!) temp is pushing 100.

Dear God/Mother Nature,

It's only June. Please have mercy on us.

Thanks!
anthony

after a succesful (and quick!) installation, i decided to go on a bike ride into and around manhattan.

here's a crappy map of my trip:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

i only went up to about 57th street on the west side because i was sweating to death. on the way back down, near the tribeca area, i saw the Downtown Boathouse where they let you kayak on the Hudson for free.

i have always wanted to do this, but nobody else did. so....those bluish lines are my (approx) kayaking routes. i had never been on a kayak before, but it was super easy and fun.

the only bad part happened when i decided to get close to the shore to watch people from the water...

i was all, "la la la dee da, i'm cruising around on the river in my free kayak and you aren't and everything is perfec....HOLY SHIT!!!! I AM SURROUNDED BY TONS OF USED CONDOMS FLOATING ALL AROUND ME IN THE WATER! OHMYJESUSGODDAMMITHELL!!!!"

i did the fastest 180 spin away from shore ever to get back to the open (and marginally cleaner) water all the while being careful not to splash any of the water onto my legs/eyes/open freaked out mouth. i just kept staring at new jersey thinking, "just keep paddling tony. be slow, be steady, get the hell away from the bio-horror that is floating all around you."

jersey never looked so good.

once i was back out into safety, i layed back onto the kayak and made myself forget about my stupid mistake. the rest of the ride really was fun (i swear!).

next time, i am going to try to go on one of their guided (and also free!) tours out to the statue of liberty and around the new york harbor. that sounds just so badass to me. anyone who's up for joining me is more than welcome. just stay away from the shore is all.

after kayaking, it was back on the bike to head home. it was now almost 5 and i was starving so i decided to get some pad thai at Planet Thai and then an ice cream cone at Tasty-d-Lite.

it was right about here that i realized i was sunburned again. the only thing to do was to go buy some more ice cream and go take a nap while watching Arrested Development.

i woke up around 10pm, just in time to take my contacts out, play a little guitar, and go to sleep.

ahhhh, Sundays.....

hold the phone

i'll be back later today maybe to tell you a story involving me, the hudson river, and a kayak.

right now i have to go on a field trip to long island for work. i swears to god.

in my absence, please enjoy the new M.O.D. album for free. (via brooklyn vegan)

i haven't listened to it yet, but dave/larry, feel free to lend your expertise in this matter.

this is not a love song

i am listening to Public Image Limited's 'this is not a love song' right now.

it totally rules.

that is such a weird band though.

minot folks: remember that guy 'skater dave'? that skinny guy from high school.

i have no idea why i just thought about him, but to continue the game of memory leap frog...

thinking of him reminds me of chris burnett, which leads me to wishing that i had some Cheese (or did they spell it 'Cheeze'?) songs, which reminds me of watching chris's band (furnace maintenence?) practice at thier crazy practice space in edmonton, which reminds me of going to this party at this house afterwards where i first heard and fell in love with david bowie's Hunky Dory album, which then reminds me of my ex-girlfriend victoria, which then makes me think of going to regina to hang out with todd's old girlfriend andrea and not buying a delay pedal at this guitar store, which then reminds me of kenosee waterslide park, which reminds me of crazy tom hettelston(?), which leads me to drew bon and how he gave todd a dollar bill that was signed by mike watt the night that drew moved away, which reminds me of the EPIC battle of mercy or whatever it was that they were playing that night , and then on to when we stole that dwight yokam cutout from musicland at the mall, and then onto larry's old buick which was totally awesome.

swhew, i am going to go lay down now...

anthony vs. the nearest star

i got a wicked full body sunburn yesterday. it's not one of those super painful "don't touch me" kind, but i am just tender enough to know it's there. it was sooo worth it though.

tonight i am going to see the band spoon play. i have never listened to them before so i hope they are good. if not, it's all your fault kelly.

speaking of kellys, it was my lovely sister's birthday yesterday. happy birthday darling.

in other news, i saw THE most horrible, fucked up thing ever on the local news last night. here's a link to the story.

gross.

did i mention my sunburn?

i now have slightly less than two months left in my twenties. is there anything that i should do/accomplish before i enter the land of thirtysomethings? all suggestions will be appreciated and considered. jesus. remember when that show was on? i remember thinking that those people were SO OLD.

time keeps on slippin' slippin' slippin' into the future....

sunshine and sondre lerche

i have my first full body sunburn. shit.
and i might skip work tomorrow to go to the beach.
ahh, summer.

my goal is to go to the beach 10 times this summer. last year i went once.
in september.
that is ridiculous.

seeing as how it's HOT as hell here now, i am going to start my beach-i-fying now.
stay tuned.

ok. so quickly, sondre lerche played a free show at this lovely little record store called soundfix in williamsburg. i went with with my pals eric and kirsten and it was pretty great. it was just him playing guitar and singing to a packed room. i hadn't seen him before, but was pretty impressed. he played lots of new songs and talked about how he just moved into the neighborhood.

after going to the park to play frisbee in the blazing sun, we decided to get some pizza at this place on bedford avenue. we sat in the back garden and had a lovely meal. about halfway through, sondre and his super cute blonde (i'm assuming) girlfriend came in to eat as well.

it was funny because for some reason during their meal, they got up and left separately and then came back in different outfits. maybe they were just sweaty from the show?

anyways, 'twas a lovely weekend full of sun and fun.

i continue to avoid work in a masterful way.

it's all going to come back and bite me in the bum, i'm sure.

but until then....

everybody's working for the weekend

i saw about two minutes of that show 'hit me baby one more time' last night and i almost threw up.

i was beyond depressed seeing Loverboy's current state. jesus. i'll always remember them as dave eide's brother's favorite band.

and then they had Arrested Development on too. i hated that band sooo much. especially that annoying lady who would dance barefoot. and they always had that old guy sort of dancing on the side of the stage. ugh. so awful. and i think that they actually won whatever it was they won on the show too.

so, in order to cleanse my mind of that bad stuff, i am setting my audio time machine to way back.

currently loading onto the ipod for the weekend's enjoyment:

violent femmes - hallowed ground
fIREHOSE - if'n
nick cave and the bad seeds - murder ballads
funkadelic - hardcore jollies
minutemen - politics of time
rollins band - the end of silence

that's right.

the rollins band makes it's ipod debut. i am going to tear that greenpoint ymca apart.

i've got diamonds in my eyes,
anthony

(ps. if anyone other than larry gets that, i'll be so proud. and shocked)
(pps. goddamn i am sad that i missed scott wolf when he came into town last week. SORRY SCOTT! i'll cheer for you really loud in the marathon though!)
(pppsss. here's a present for the weekend. the amazing part is at the end.)

ok, ok...

crap. it's already wednesday. and it's already june. my grip on the space/time continuum continues to loosen...

so yeah. last week mostly sucked. i thought i was going to die from wednesday morning until friday afternoon. then i recovered and it was memorial day weekend and it was beautiful outside.

here's a quick recap:

it all started last tuesday. it was adam's birthday and he was celebrating at the lovely and fun El Cantinero on University. before the party though, i went to see this pretty badass documentary about the Minutemen called We Jam Econo.

i really liked seeing all of that old footage of d. boon jumping around like a maniac. mike watt was his usual awesome rambling self and george hurley's cah-razy poof of hair was amazing. check it out if you get a chance. oh, i just remembered...at this screening they played it SUPER SUPER loud though. i had to plug my ears for certain parts even. it was easily the loudest movie of all time.

then it was on to celebrate adam's 32nd year.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
here's the birthday boy. awww.

it was fun. during the night, all that i ate was a bunch of chips and salsa.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
and one bite of flan.

initially, i was convinced that i got food poisoning from this one bite of flan. i was sure of it. all i know is that i woke up the next morning severely sick. seeing this picture makes me want to gag, but i thought it was pretty great that someone captured me at the moment of the poisoning. (i have since found out that there seems to be a nasty virus going around making folks sick, so it's not from the flan after all. hooray!)

ok. here's something else from the night. at one point i handed my camera to my friend eric while i went to go put money in the jukebox. when i came back to the table i caught him taking this picture:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
haha...making out at a mexican restaurant! jesus. i'm glad i got the camera back when i did.

well, the next morning my epic battle for survival began.

and there was blackness...

...three days later, i rose again to hang out with the libby in spacious prospect park in brooklyn.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
it was just what i needed. plus, i hadn't been there in ages.

the next day i called eric to see what he was up to. we decided to go to the park to play frisbee.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
that made two days in a row in prospect park. we ate subway sandwiches and watched a stunningly scoreless jamaican soccer match and layed in the sun.

the next day, my friend kelly had a bbq at her apartment in park slope. it was a lovely affair. from now on, kelly will be known as the woman who makes the most kick ass brownies in the entire universe.

after that, i met up with my cousin chris(topher) from minneapolis in the east village. it was his first time here and it was great to see him.

we went out to Arlene's Grocery to watch heavy metal karaoke. it was totally wicked. in case you don't know, this is karaoke with a live band that actually sounds pretty damn good. one of chris's friends wowed the crowd with an amazing version of Motley Crue's 'Livewire'. hands down though, the best performance of all time was put in by this little 5 foot tall old rocker dude with bleached blonde hair. right when he got on stage, i knew we were in for it. once he launched into Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark" i knew i was right. it was completely unbelievable. this guy could sing. and not just sing, but Dio-sing. the place went bananas when he was finished.

last night was chris's final night here so i went out and met up with him for dinner and then drinks at still one of my all time favorite new york bars, Holiday Cocktail Lounge. it was fun because it was super mellow in there and we could talk and catch up on things.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

next up for me is a visit by (steady yourselves ladies) another minneaplolitan, jay peterson.

will anthony ever get back into the studio and get work done?
is going to the ymca to craft the perfect beach body a shattered dream?
is it all over for our hero?

only time will tell...
