red hot chili peppers at irving plaza (!)
last night, my super nice friend eric and i went to see the red hot chili peppers play at the ridiculously small Irving Plaza.
i think the venue holds about a thousand people.
they played a bunch of songs off of their new record and i thought they sounded really good live. eric was sad that they didn't play anything off of Mother's Milk, but i thought that they made up for it by playing "me and my friends" from The Uplift Mofo Party Plan.
that was a nice surprise.
oh, and during the encore, omar from the mars volta/at the drive in joined in on a super loud, super long rock jam.
pretty badass.
here's a fairly crappy video i took of one of my favorite parts of the show:
big thanks to eric for getting me in. it was a ton of fun.

this is what i did for lunch today
my work pal eric and i went up to Lincoln Center to look at david blaine do his david blaine thing.
it was kind of interesting i guess.
i've also seen him "frozen in ice" and stand on a pole for thre or four days.
eh..
what i learned most from this experience, though, is how creepy the upper west side of manhattan is.

what i woke up to this morning
this huge fire was blazing one block away from my apartment.
yikes.
update:
"Excluding the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, "this is unquestionably the largest fire we've had in more than 10 years," Mr. Scoppetta said, adding, "This is a huge fire.""
- from the New York Times.
