red hot chili peppers at irving plaza (!)
last night, my super nice friend eric and i went to see the red hot chili peppers play at the ridiculously small Irving Plaza.
i think the venue holds about a thousand people.
they played a bunch of songs off of their new record and i thought they sounded really good live. eric was sad that they didn't play anything off of Mother's Milk, but i thought that they made up for it by playing "me and my friends" from The Uplift Mofo Party Plan.
that was a nice surprise.
oh, and during the encore, omar from the mars volta/at the drive in joined in on a super loud, super long rock jam.
pretty badass.
here's a fairly crappy video i took of one of my favorite parts of the show:
big thanks to eric for getting me in. it was a ton of fun.

I have an extra ticket to sunset rubdown/frog eyes/beruit at Mercury Lounge on the 22nd. Interested?
is that kyle of the johnson family? are you in town now?
thanks for the offer, i'd totally go, but i'm going to see gnarls barkley that night.
nuts!
The BeeGees song that was the best part of the show. I downloaded it yesterday.
Anthony, if you see me getting high, knock me down. Or at least bitch-slap me on your blog.
Thank you.
ha!
awesome.
It is Kyle of the Johnson family. I'll be moving to town on Sunday.
I didn't realize that Gnarls was the same night. Sheeyat.
How come no mention of the death of the guy from the Go-Betweens?
some dude from the go-betweens died?
F you, fake Anonymous!
Yes, don't act so stupid. Some guy from the Go-Betweens died. And if you were a real guy "in the know", you'd know. Or would have read about it on some other blog.
...at the drive in?? i remember when they played minot. we had a gigantic sleepover at the liberty. i knew that they had gotten, uh, bigger than they were then, but playin with rhcp? hmmmm. i saw the rhcp in denmark 10 summers ago at roskilde with a bunch of other bands. i'm not so much a fan now, but they did provide the soundtrack for a bunch of crazy nights when i was in the 10th grade =) i think we way have rented their video from budget more than anyone else in history. maybe...
whoever the dude is "jamming" at the end (guy from at the drive in?) looks like he is playing with the rock band at his bar mitzvah.
There's something so fucking annoying about Flea. But, I guess that holds true for all of the other guys in that band too.
The lack of up-to-the-minute updates on this blog that we've all become so accostomed to seems to indicate the death of this thing called the information super highway.
