christmas in minot - part two

the next morning was christmas eve.

i spent pretty much the entire day wrapping presents and trying to shake a pretty bad headache. it actually took so long to wrap my gifts that we had to skip going to church.

oops.

it seemed to go over alright though, as we got to spend more time opening presents and enjoying ourselves.

just so that you can follow along, my holidays are structured like so:
christmas eve is spent at my dad's house, where we open presents, usually go to church and then go over to the nybakken house to eat and open MORE presents. late that night, my sister and i head over to my mother's house to sleep. in the morning, we eat breakfast and then head downstairs to open presents (yes, again). the rule of this day is that you have to wear your pajamas the entire day no matter what. it rules. in fact, this entire schedule works out very well for me.

it's the best couple of days ever.

here's me and my grandma tressa right before the wrapping paper started flying on christmas eve. she just moved to minot from pittsburgh, pa this fall. it was so great to have her around.

my brother gage got this fancy-pantsy poker set. let the raging gambling addiction begin! (he also got a PSP, which i thought was pretty damn amazing)

over at the nybakkens, there was a giant mix of nybakkens, kramers, and kuligs.

here is a table full of kuligs.

and here is some general holiday action, my sister being the calm center of it all.

after eating and presents, a ferocious tournament of bumper pool broke out in the basement.

here's cousin christopher trying his best against gage.

his best wasn't enough though, as you might be able to tell by gage's finishing move.

icy.

soon after, it was time to head down to my other house.

the best thing about having a little brother who just got his license is the fact that he'll take you just about anywhere you want to go at any time. for free!

once at my mother's house, i settled in for a long winter's nap.

in the morning, i was rustled from my bed by the sound of bells.

santa?

um, no...

it was my sister's tiny, little dog cosmo dressed up in a tiny, little santa suit (complete with gold lame boots).

the dog did his tiny, little best to not look completely humiliated.

anyways, after a delicious breakfast of caramel rolls, fruit, orange juice and coffee, it was time to open more presents.

my mother, sister and her husband matt await their turns.

after the dust settled...all that we were left with was a HUGE pile of wrapping paper and boxes, and a whole lot of awesome gifts.

the rest of the day was spent playing darts, eating, drinking, and playing pool.

god i wish it was december again.

the next day, i was back up at my dad's house. after going out to dinner with all of the kuligs, we ended up at my sister's house.

here's my cousin curtis, who just arrived from LA on christmas day. he was a little more tan than the rest of us.

keli's (my sister) basement is pretty much the most fun place on earth.

why?

because there's a pool table, a simpson's pinball game, a full-size galaga/pacman/ms. pacman, and this...

here's my uncle walter and chris battling it out.

after a few hours of this, chris and i headed out to meet up with a few friends at this bar called ebeneezer's.

it was a pretty slow night, but soon the carlson brothers showed up and everything was fine.

here's shantel and steven. he'd just cut his long hair and trimmed his moustache.

he looked sharp.

larry and garth were happy to see each other.

at about 11:30 we decided to run up to the dakota lounge for one last drink (last call in north dakota is 1:00am). i was excited to go since it had just relocated to a new spot. once i arrived though, i immediately hated it. it feels like you are drinking in a giant airplane hangar that's full of smoke and young, drunken dipshits.

ugh. it's too bad.

here we are expressing our disdain of the place.

the good side of that coin is the fact that maybe now i'll never have to drink another fishbowl again.

forget i ever said that.
